A date has been set, our guests of honor have been booked, and everyone is cordially invited to this year's Fair Trade Bash.

The keynote speaker is Chris Treter of HIgher Grounds, a coffee company based in Michigan that is "fueled by its social mission and driven by a passion for sourcing the highest quality coffees from around the world."

Higher Grounds has a fierce connection to Fair Trade coffee; not to mention they partner with farmers to make an outstanding blend or five (that I've tasted).

You can have the joy of listening to the music of local singer-songwriter Dan Pechacek!

This bash also features a coffee cupping, a fashion show, lots of vendors with wares to sell (for special prices), raffles, and lots of information for your brains!

Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm Location: 117B and 117C, MSU International Center
We look forward to chatting with you all!

It has just been announced that the World Fair Trade Day events are to take place from May 1st through 15th this year. World Fair Trade Day itself is May 8th.

Fair Trade Resource Network let's YOU, and by that I mean any group of people, plan a Fair Trade Day for your own town or city during that time. They do this by supplying you with flyers and kits and such.

To get resources and learn how to plan one, visit http://www.fairtraderesource.org/wftd-10/.

Other really fun events that will get people interested and celebrate Fair Trade, such as "Fair Trade My Home", are planned. Check out what else is in store at http://www.fairtraderesource.org/wftd-10/wftd-toolkit/about-wftd-2010/.

Should MSU Students for Fair Trade plan an event? Send your thoughts to msufairtrade@gmail.com or leave a comment here!

Hello hello,
Hope everyone's been in good health.
This Saturday Kirabo will be at the Lansing Center for Michigan Power Shift 2009's Fair Trade and Local Market, which runs from October the 9th through 11th. There are some other great activities going on, so check it out; but do make sure you head out there to support fair trade.

Also, Gail from Kirabo needs some volunteers to help her out at the stand for an hour or so on Saturday. Call Kirabo at (517) 337-8000 or email kirabo@att.net to get in touch and help out. It's a lot of fun, I promise.

Cheers!

Happy Boxing Day everyone! FairTradeUSA only has one event listed happening in Michigan.  Assuredly there is no shortage of events truly happening, so let's everyone make sure that directories like FairTradeUSA have our local events listed in the future.  That one event is:
Fair Trade Farmer Tour, East Lansing
October 10th
7pm

TransFair USA and Michigan State University's Real Food organization is hosting Jovanny Coronel, a Fair Trade banana farmer from Ecuador. Jovanny and Lauren Friedman (of TransFair USA) will discuss the cooperative model and how Fair Trade supports quality of life for banana producers.
Michigan State University, 107 South Kedzie Hall, East Lansing
